Schaun wa mal was die Zeit so bringt.

Hi.
The time with BlitzMax/Module Releases drags on.
I Think the Silence with BlitzMax Release Date is ok.
But Infos about Modules are importantly for me and other. I dont know which Modules i get tomorrow and i dont know which price they have.
If i create today a Module and tomorrow the Blitz Support Release the same,it was stupid useless work for me.
My Question. Why i cant get more infos about Modules as BlitzMax owner? I dont understand that.
Mfg an impatiently BlitzMax Fan.

Most likely because there is no solid timeline yet -- they'll be ready when they're ready...

If you look at the bugs forum they are also working pretty hard addressing the various small bugs people have brought up so far. It all takes time.

At least some infos on the type of modules that are in work or planning ( beside 3D and gui ) would be nice.

release dates are something that is totally useless in computer world anyway Wink

I agree with you that this information is important.
Will the IDE be developed or should I get (perhaps buy) a third party IDE?
Will there be a GUI module? Will it be free or extra? Should I get a 3rd party GUI module or wait just in case?
Will the 3D module be chargeable?
What 'other' features will be released as alluded to by BRL in a forum post.
There's a competitor around the corner who have announced what will be in GA and are taking 'requests' and providing feedback for additions. It looks good but hasn't reached a demo stage yet. If it delivers what it suggests it might just open up the choice a little bit.

Okay,

We're still working flat out on BlitzMax and getting the Win32/Linux release together. However, we do have 2 modules on the horizon (names subject to change):

MaxGui : A cross-platform, BlitzPlus-ish, GUI module that retains the look and feel of it's host OS.

Max3D : A next-gen, Blitz3D-ish, 3D module targetted at modern shader-level hardware.

And yes, both will cost ya, although I have no idea how much just yet.

The GUI module is actually quite advanced and should be out shortly after the Win32/Linux release of BlitzMax. It will feature FLTK/Win32/Cocoa drivers, all of which are pretty much in sync now.

The 3D module is at a very early stage right now, but I have a reasonably good idea of where it's all going. It will also feature OpenGL *and* Direct3D9 drivers. It may or may not be compatible with non-shader hardware.

Along the way, I'd like to slip in a 'NetGame' style freebie module and any other bits and pieces that seem sensible to add.

Hope that's informative enough...

Bye,

It's good to have some news and this sounds good. It's very nice to see my suggestion of having both OpenGL and D3D9 drivers has been taken on board.

At the risk of pushing my luck, I'd strongly urge towards supporting non-shader hardware as well as shader hardware. I appreciate it's a lot more work, but it would be suicide to release a game for online-only sales that doesn't support pre-shader cards. And there aren't very many commercial Blitz games going around.

I'm very happy the 3D engine is targeted at 'this-gen' hardware first.

I'm sure 99% of your userbase will have no complaints about it being commercial neither.

Thanks

YAAAAAAaaaaayyyyy!!!!
Will the D3D driver support the current 2D commandset? (hope so)

make it work fine on non uber shader cards, else the boyz will be around!

The Linux MaxGUI module will need something better than FLTK before I could consider buying it.

I suggest making Max3D compatible with non-shader hardware, although obviously many of its top-notch features won't work on such devices.

Other than that, sounds good.

Zitat:

Yes, the next update will include pub.directx. Currently, only bits of d3d9 are implemented (quite a bit though), but it will grow.

Ist doch schonmal was.
